Over the past several months, we've ventured out to new places in search of great micro-brews that are available on tap at some local establishments. Recently, we found TJs in Paoli, PA.
While enjoying a nice lunch over there, I could not help but try the Bell's Oktoberfest. I was pleasantly surprised by this beer. It held up to a spicy chicken sandwich quite well.
Bell's Brewery is new to us. We've been lucky enough to spot this beer on tap at a local watering hole. After all, it's Oktoberfest time. Football, sausage and beer... what better combination?
"A coppery amber lager that showcases a full bodied, malty flavor that is balanced by a refreshing bitterness derived from fine noble hops." - Bell's Website
Color (possible 5 points) - 4 - The color was a solid representation of the style. That being said, TJ's is a bit of a dark place... but it was clear that this was going to be a solid beer. A deep amber with hints of gold and brown.
Smell (possible 5 points) - 3 - Aroma was quite good, but not spectacular.
Taste (possible 10 points) - 7 - An all around contender here for a session drinker. I found it just a tad on the sweet side... but I will have to review it further.
Mouthfeel (possible 5 points) - 5 - Mouthfeel was excellent. Poured from the tap this beer had all it needed to excel in flavor and proper levels of carbonation. Carbonation wasn't overwhelming... just a nice, pleasant and refreshing level.
Drinkability (possible 10 points) - 8 - For my preferred, heavier style, I could easily settle into a sunday afternoon enjoying football with this great beer.
A very respectable 27 out of 35 points for this beer.
Highly Recommended.
