Once again we find ourselves at TJs in Paoli, PA. These guys have a decent number of taps that they keep well stocked with beers from Microbreweries all over the north east.
Today's selection was Ayinger's Oktoberfest. We reviewed this beer in previous podcast... after making that statement I could not find the entry in our archives... so it might be in the lost episodes... We'll keep you posted ... and here is a text based review of this fine beer.
Ayinger's Oktoberfest is not new to us. That being said, this is the first opportunity we've had to taste this beer out of a tap.
"Rich, golden color. Slightly sweet, malty nose. Medium to big body and alcohol. Soft dryness from long maturation." - Ayinger's Website
Color (possible 5 points) - 4 - The beer presents cloudy in the glass with a minor head. With a deep golden color with hints of brown this beer appears to want to be paired with some heavy meats and foods of the fall season.
Smell (possible 5 points) - 4 - Aroma was quite good with a hint of sweetness that's hard to place.
Taste (possible 10 points) - 7 - Again, Ayinger pleases the pallet. It's a solid tasting beer that we found even better off of the top.
Mouthfeel (possible 5 points) - 5 - Mouthfeel was excellent. Carbonation was light resulting in an almost non-existent head. A very minor after taste certainly didn't detract from the beer.
Drinkability (possible 10 points) - 7 - I'm not so sure this is a session drinker. It has a hint of sweetness that would likely prevent me from consuming large amounts... but that cleary is a beer that will match well with food and complexly spiced food at this. Truly a great fall beer.
A very respectable 27 out of 35 points for this beer.
Highly Recommended.
