Once again, we find ourselves at TJ's Everyday. This local establishment continues to impress us with it's overall beer selection, clean taps and decent food. We're speaking with them about recording some Podcasts there.
On tap today was an always rewarding Flying Fish Oktoberfest brew. Aptly named Octoberfish, this brew certainly didn't disappoint.
"A beautiful reddish color, a savory malt profile and nice hop flavor, make this Fest beer quite drinkable. OktoberFish is great with food and especially great with Lederhosen." - Flying Fish Website
The beer was poured on tap into a nice pint glass. Temperature was cool, but not overly cold. Admittedly, the environment at TJ's can be a bit dark.
Color (possible 5 points) - 4 - A solid reddish, amber color. This is truly a beer that you look at and immediately want to drink.
Smell (possible 5 points) - 4 - Aroma was solid with a hit of sweetness in the air. (we'll refine this a little later as we're sure to have this brew again.)
Taste (possible 10 points) - 9 - For oktoberfest brews this is the first one that I've felt I could drink for an entire session. It's amazingly smooth and pleasing to draink. There's a touch of a dry, sweet finish to a malty start. Great flavors and the strength to stand up to lots of timely (fall) dishes.
Mouthfeel (possible 5 points) - 5 - Mouthfeel was excellent. Carbonation was spot on and easily drinkable.
Drinkability (possible 10 points) - 8 - This beer is easily a session drinker. A most awesome experience. I had a chicken sandwich with a side salad that paired quite well with the beer. No doubt this beer has what it takes to be a solid session beer.
30 out of 35 points for this beer.
Highly Recommended.

Comment by beowulfde on 2008-10-07 14:24:35 Based upon their own newsletter, Flying Fish is running out of this great beer. Get your supplies now, if you're lucky enough to find some! | Comment by beowulfde on 2008-10-09 14:52:10 I just spoke with a local bartender... He stated that most of their Oktoberfest brews are gone. Indeed, looking at the stuff they have available... the seasons have changed. |
